WHO ARE WE?

GURISES UNIDOS is a non governmental organization for the defense of the rights of children and adolescents in the framework of the Convention on the Rights of Children.

A little history...
The experience over a number of years allowed new strategies and modes of work to be developed. Beyond the traditional institutional answers, children and adolescents in social vulnerability situation, far from school , their neighborhood and family, called for sustained actions in a methodology specifically designed for them.

It was our aim to improve the quality of life of children and adolescents in a social vulnerability situation without excluding them from the social or institutional environments they were connected with.

Whilst inserting the children and adolescents in their environment as a starting point for the recognition of their rights and communitarian participation as a compulsory context for their social development, our task was based on the following:

•  Promote the organization and participation of children and adolescents in an active, critical integration.
•  Ease the process of change in the children as also in their social and family environment.
•  Promote future projection.
•  Discover and help to unfold the potential of children and adolescents without romantic idealization of their own nature.
•  Promote the legitimacy of the possibilities all children and adolescents have as citizens, members of the society.

Once the Pilot Project was finished, GURISES UNIDOS was no longer a programme but became a non profit civil association. Since then various projects have been carried out , all of them based on promotion, prevention, assistance and defense of the Rights of Children. This is based on the methodology described above; giving priority in all actions to children and adolescents in social vulnerability situations as the main actors.
